Get your gyrating pelvises and jazz hands ready - Bob Fosse's Dancin' is coming back to Broadway. A kaleidoscope of short dance numbers to music ranging from Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil to Sigmund Romberg and from Cat Stevens to Louis Prima, the original Dancin' opened at the Broadhurst Theater March 27, 1978 and ran more than four years on Broadway. Now Fosse's celebration of his own choreographic powers will reach the Roundabout Theater's Studio 54 space April 17, 2009, with an opening scheduled for May 5 of that year. Fosse's longtime partner and muse, Ann Reinking, who was Tony nominated for the original Dancin', will serve as artistic consultant on the revival, alongside Nicole Fosse, the late choreographer's daughter. Graciela Daniele , the much Tony-nominated director-choreographer, will direct Dancin'¸ though Fosse's former assistant, Kathryn Doby, will recreate the original dances. Variety notes that three designers of the original Dancin' - set designer Peter Larkin, costumer Willa Kim and lighting designer Jules Fisher - will be on-hand for the remount. Billed as a limited engagement, the new Dancin' will open cold in New York but is already planning a national tour.
