The People vs. Mona, a new musical with a book and score by Jim Wann, the co-author of Pump Boys and Dinettes, opens July 18th at off-off-Broadway's Abingdon Theater. Co-written with Wann's wife, Patricia Miller, the tuner is billed as a "Southern murder mystery musical" and runs through Aug. 4
Set in a small Georgia town, The People vs. Mona tells of a lawyer who defends a local club owner accused of murdering her husband. The prosecuting attorney just happens to be a mayoral candidate - and Jim's fiancée.
Directed by Laura Standley, the musical is being presented by Ground UP Productions [sic], which staged a well-received revival of Pump Boys last year. When not releasing CD's or penning such musicals as King Mackerel and the Blues are Running and Jim's Garage, Wann hosts the PBS television show, "Farmers Almanac."
