Doubt and Frost/Nixon shine as Oscar noms are announced.

Quality will out. Doubt and Frost/Nixon, two shows that did well on Broadway, are poised to do it again on film. Both were multi nominated for Academy Awards, which will be handed out on February 22 at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.

Doubt picked up nominations for Best Supporting Actor ( Philip Seymour Hoffman), Best Actress ( Meryl Streep), Best Supporting Actresses ( Amy Adams, Viola Davis) and Best Original Screenplay ( John Patrick Shanley).

As for Frost/Nixon, it got nominations for Best Picture, Best Director ( Ron Howard), Best Film Editing, Best Original Screenplay ( Peter Morgan), and Best Actor ( Frank Langella).

Other prominent theatre personalities to get noms included Stephen Daldry ( Best Director) and David Hare (Best Original Screenplay) for The Reader. Also Mike Leigh for Best Original Screenplay for Happy-Go-Lucky and Martin McDonagh for Best Original Screenplay for In Bruges. And there was Marisa Tomei, late of Top Girls on stage, receiving an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for The Wrestler.
