AMERICAN BUFFALO
at the Belasco

WHERE THE BUFFALO ROAMS
By ROGER B. HARRIS
Published August 20 2008

  Cedric the Entertainer

David Mamet's American Buffalo, starring Cedric the Entertainer and John Leguizamo will start performances at the Belasco on October 31. The show will officially open in November 17. Robert Falls will direct the production.

In 1977, the show's Broadway production opened on February 16 at the Ethel Barrymore starring Robert Duvall, Kenneth McMillan and John Savage. It received the New York Drama Critics Circle 1977 citation as Best American Play. A 1983 Broadway revival played the Booth and starred Al Pacino, J.J. Johnston and James Hayden.

American Buffalo is a simple tale of three men who attempt, or at least, plot to steal a rare Buffalo nickel. The color of the language, this being Mamet, shall we say, is at least "blue."

Additional cast members as well as the creative team will be announced in the near future.
