2006-2007 TONY NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED

THE BEST OF TIMES, THE WORST OF TIMES

The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts was the site for the announcement of the 2006-2007 Tony Award nominations. Former Tony Award winner Jane Krakowski and Rent alumni Taye Diggs handled the early morning ceremony.

The biggest news was made by the musical Spring Awakening (Eugene O'Neill Theatre), which got 11 Tony nominations. Tom Stoppard's The Coast of Utopia (Vivian Beaumont Theatre), received 10 nominations, as did the musical Grey Gardens (Walter Kerr Theatre).

Other shows which had a stack of nominations, included Curtains (Al Hirschfeld Theatre), with eight nominations; Mary Poppins (New Amsterdam), with seven nominations, including one for Best Musical; Legally Blonde (Palace Theatre), with seven nominations, but not one for Best Musical; Coram Boy (Imperial Theatre), with six nominations, but not for Best Play; Journey's End (Belasco Theatre), with six nominations; and 110 in the Shade (Studio 54), with five nominations.

Best Play nominations went to The Coast of Utopia, Frost/Nixon, The Little Dog Laughed and Radio Golf; Best Musical noms were had by Curtains, Grey Gardens, Mary Poppins and Spring Awakening. Best Revival of a Play picks included Inherit the Wind, Journey's End, Talk Radio and Translations. Best Revival of a Musical nominations went to The Apple Tree, A Chorus Line, Company and 110 in the Shade

Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play reeled in Boyd Gaines (Journey's End), Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon),Brian F O'Byrne( The Coast of Utopia), Christopher Plummer (Inherit the Wind) and Liev Schreiber (Talk Radio).

Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play nominations went to Eve Best( A Moon for the Misbegotten), Swoozie Kurtz( Heartbreak House), Angela Lansbury (Deuce), Vanessa Redgrave( The Year of Magical Thinking) and Julie White (The Little Dog Laughed).

Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical noms went to Michael Cerveris( LoveMusik), Raul Esparza(Company) Jonathan Groff(Spring Awakening), Gavin Lee( Mary Poppins) and David Hyde Pierce( Curtains).

Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical nominations were picked up by Laura Bell Bundy(Legally Blonde), Christine Ebersole( Grey Gardens), Audra McDonald( 110 in the Shade), Debra Monk( Curtains) and Donna Murphy (LoveMusik).

Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play noms were grabbed by Anthony Chisholm( Radio Golf), Billy Crudup(The Coast of Utopia), Ethan Hawke( The Coast of Utopia), John Earl Jelks( Radio Golf) and Stark Sands(Journey's End)
