WORDS AND MUSIC CONCERTS
at Broadway By the Bay in San Mateo, CA.

SOUND CHECK
By Roger B. Harris
Published June 21 2007

Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty/Ph: Ben Strothmann

What do Ragtime, Once On This Island and Seussical have in common? Well, songwriters Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, of course. And they will be appearing November 8-11, Broadway By the Bay in San Mateo, CA.

Joining them in these concerts, aptly entitled Ahrens and Flaherty: Words & Music, will be Broadway veterans Marin Mazzie and Jason Danieley, who happen to be husband and wife. Songs from the above-mentioned shows are bound to be sung.

Ms. Mazzie, currently in Spamalot, has been thrice-nominated for Tony Awards, for her work in Passion, Ragtiime and Kiss Me Kate. She's also been in Into the Woods, Big River and the City Center Encores! versions of Kismet and Out of this World. She also crossed the pond to star in Kiss Me Kate, earning an Olivier nomination for her efforts.

Mr. Danieley, now appearing in Curtains, has been in The Full Monty and Candide. He, too, performed in London, repeating his role in The Full Monty. He has appeared in the City Center Encores! production of Strike Up the Band. Off-Broadway, he was in Floyd Collins.

Other works by Ahrens and Flaherty include Dessa Rose, Lucky Stiff, A Man of No Importance and My Favorite Year. Their The Glorious Ones will play at the Mitzi E. Newhouse this fall.
