Prepare to be entertained: Two acclaimed actresses-Janet McTeer and Harriet Walter -will star in the critically acclaimed Donmar Warehouse production of Mary Stuart, the 1800 Friedrich Schiller drama. It will start performances on March 30 at the Broadhurst. An official opening is set for April 19. Phyllida Lloyd will handle the directing chores, Anthony Ward the design, Hugh Vanstone the lighting and Paul Ardini the sound. Additional casting will be announced in the near future.
Mary Stuart, in a new version by Peter Oswald, is an intense drama revolving around the complicated relationship between Elizabeth I ( Walter) and her cousin, Mary, Queen of Scots (McTeer). As long as the Catholic Mary lives, the reign of Elizabeth is never secure. What's a Queen to do? Janet McTeer won a Tony Award for her performance in a revival of Ibsen's A Doll's House. She appeared  recently in the West End in a production of Yasmina Reza's Gods of Carnage, opposite Ralph Fiennes. Harriet Walter was an Olivier Award  for her performance in the Donmar Warehouse production of Mary Stuart.
