The current season had barely come to an end, when City Center Encores! announced its shows for the 2009-2010 season.
Leading off the season will be the 1930 classic Girl Crazy. With music and lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin and a book by Guy Bolton and Jack McGowan, the show was a big hit. And it had such memorable songs as "I Got Rhythm." and "But Not For Me." to buck up depression-era audiences. The show will run from November 19-22. No cast has been announced.
The 1954 musical Fanny (February 4-7) will follow Girl Crazy. It's based on the stories of Marcel Pagnol about a girl and her sailor. The score is by Harold Rome with a book by Joshua Logan and S.N. Behrman.
Last up will be Anyone Can Whistle, playing April 8-11. The 1964 tuner was written by Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents. As with the other two shows, the casting and creative team has not been chosen.
