EXPOSED

  Annie Sprinkle and Elizabeth Stephens

The internet may be for porn, as Trekkie Monster joyfully sings in Avenue Q, but off-Broadway is sometimes for porn stars.

Annie Sprinkle, who's spent her post-porn years as a performance artist, women's rights activist and sex historian and educator, returns to off-off-Broadway this month with Exposed: Experiments in Love, Sex, Death & Art, a collaboration with her life partner, sculptor and media artist Elizabeth M. Stephens.

Directed by Neon Weiss and billed as "a unique love story created in response to the violence of war and the anti-gay marriage movement," Exposed takes on such topics as artificial insemination, same-sex relationships and Sprinkle's bout with breast cancer.

The author of Dr, Sprinkle's Spectacular Sex: Make Over Your Love Life is best known in theater circles for her ground-breaking, pre-Vagina Monologues solo work, in which she invited audience members onstage to view her opened cervix with a flashlight.

The show plays April 26-May 13 at Collective: Unconscious Theater on Church Street.
