LES MISERABLES
at the Broadhurst

MOTHERS AND DAUGHTERS
By David Lefkowitz
Published September 18 2008

  Judy Kuhn

Three-time Tony nominee Judy Kuhn will soon revisit a musical that proved a stepping stone to her Broadway career. Starting Oct. 23, the actress will join the cast of Les Miserables, this time playing the mother of the character she created back in 1987.

Kuhn, who was Tony nommed for playing Cosette in the original Les Miz, will now play Cosette's mother, Fantine, currently assayed by Miss Saigon Tony winner, Lea Salonga.

It's been a busy time for Kuhn, who also just released, Serious Playground, a CD covering tunes by late New York songstress Laura Nyro, a project that grew out of her appearance in the off-Broadway Nyro revue, Eli's Comin'. Among her previous Broadway credits are Tony nominated stints in Chess and the 1994 She Loves Me revival, and a Drama Desk-nominated turn in the quick-to-close, Rags (at the sorely missed Mark Hellinger).

When Kuhn begins in Les Miz at the Broadhurst Theater, she'll be joined by John Owen-Jones as Valjean and current cast-members Robert Hunt as Javert, Producers veteran Gary Beach as Thenardier and Ali Ewoldt as daughter, Cosette.
