DEUCE RUNS WILD
at Music Box Theater, NY

MATCH PLAY
By David Lefkowitz
Published May 6 2007

  Marian Seldes & Angela Lansbury

Angela Lansbury returns to Broadway, May 6, in the opening of Deuce, a two-hander by Terrence McNally that co-stars another stage legend, Marian Seldes.

Staged by Michael Blakemore for a limited run at the Music Box Theater, Deuce tells of two female tennis champs reunited years later.

Though she hasn't been in a Broadway show since the 1983 revival of Mame, Murder She Wrote star Lansbury remains beloved to theater audiences for her turns in the original Sweeney Todd and in a revival of Gypsy. Seldes, who's in the Guinness Book of World Records for never missing a performance during her 14-year stint in Deathtrap, is perhaps most identified with Edward Albee plays, having scored a Tony for A Delicate Balance and receiving good reviews for Three Tall Women and her role in The Play About the Baby.

McNally , whose recent Some Men off Broadway charted the course of male gay history, is best known for penning The Ritz, Master Class and Frankie and Johnny in the Claire de Lune. Director Blakemore enjoys the distinction of winning two directing Tonys in the same season (2000), for the play Copenhagen and the musical revival of Kiss Me Kate.
