It was a big hit in London earlier this year. Now Yasmina Reza's God of Carnage will try and conquer Broadway. Matthew Warchus who directed the play at London's Gielgud Theatre, will once again do the honors for the New York version. The translation is by Christopher Hampton. Casting, theater and performance dates will be announced at a later time. The play revolves around a playground altercation between two boys and its aftermath when the two sets of parents meet to set matters straight. Londoners were treated to splendid performances by Ralph Fiennes, Janet McTeer, Ken Stott and Tamsin Greig. Reviewing in London Theatre News, Matt Wolf observed that the play is an extended discussion on the universal topic of what we want and think human behavior might be. That answer is pretty bleak. Reza is the author of Art, which won a Tony Award for Best Play. She also wrote Life X 3. Warchus, most recently directed Boeing-Boeing (Longacre). Previously, he directed both of Reza's plays.
