Ciaran Hinds, Conleth Hill, David Morse, Jim Norton, and Richie Coster will star in the American premiere of Conor McPherson's The Seafarer at the Booth Theatre, starting October 30, with a November 15 opening. The play will be directed by McPherson. Prior to its upcoming New York appearance, The Seafarer had its world premiere at the National's Cottesloe Theatre in September 2006. The play is about Ireland, the sea and the power of myth. Set in Dublin on Christmas Eve, Sharky (Morse) has returned to care for his aging brother (Norton), who's recently lost his sight. Old drinking buddies Ivan (Hill) and Nicky (Coster) are on hand, hoping to play cards. But the arrival of a stranger (Hinds), from the distant past raises the stakes ever higher. McPherson's other works include the Olivier Award-winning The Weir, the Tony-nominated Shining City, Port Authority and Dublin Carol. The creative team for the show will include Rae Smith (set and costume design), Neil Austin (lighting design), and Matthew Smethurst-Evans (sound design)
