HAIR
at Shakepeare in the Park at the Delacorte

HAIR EXTENSIONS
By ROGER B. HARRIS
Published August 11 2008

  Will Swenson

Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical will extend (for a second time) through September 7 at the Delacorte Theatre in the park they call Central. Hair has a book and lyrics by James Rado and the late Gerome Ragni and music by Galt MacDermot. The current production is directed by Diane Paulus.

The cast includes Jonathan Groff (to be replaced by Christopher J. Hanke as of August 17) as Claude, Will Swenson as Berger, Caren Lyn-Manuel as Sheila, Allison Case as Crissy, Kacie Sheik as Jeanie, Darius Nichols as Hud, Bryce Ryness as Woof, Patina Miller as Dionne, Andrew Kober as Father/Margaret Mead and Megan Lawrence as Mother, among others.

The creatives include Scott Pask (scenic design), Michael McDonald (costume design), Michael Chybowski (lighting design), Acme Sound (sound design) and Karole Armitage (choreography).

According to our theaternewsonline reviewer Bill Stevenson, "the show's antiwar message continues to resonate almost as powerfully today as it did in the Vietnam [War] era... It remains the best rock musical ever written."
