THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST
at the Theater Row Theater, New York

EARNEST UNDERTAKING
By David Lefkowitz

  Carole Shelley

Adding star power to its one-night, benefit reading of The Importance of Being Earnest, off-Broadway's Resonance Ensemble has cast Tony winner Carole Shelley  as the cluelessly class-conscious Lady Bracknell. Shelley, who made her Broadway debut as Gwendolyn Pigeon in The Odd Couple, most recently originated the role of Madame Morrible in Wicked. Her other major Broadway assignments included various Moliere and Alan Ayckbourn plays and her Best-Actress Tony turn in 1979's The Elephant Man.

Joining Shelley on March 19 for the Earnest benefit are Visiting Mr. Green's David Alan Basche, Jennifer Mudge, Patrick Melville, Maxwell Zener, and Matthew Cowles and Gutenberg! The Musical!'s Jeremy Shamos as Jack.

Resonance artistic director Eric Parness will stage the reading, which will be held at the Theater Row Theater in midtown. $80 tickets to the Oscar Wilde comedy include a pre-show reception.

Resonance staged Earnest in its second season, and has since produced such standards as The Tempest, The Lower Depths and The Imaginary Invalid.
