Sheba has come back. S. Epatha Merkerson, will reprise her Los Angeles turn as Lola in a revival of William Inge's Come Back, Little Sheba, on Broadway at Manhattan Theater Club's Biltmore Theatre, starting January 3, with an official opening set for January 24. Michael Pressman will direct. As yet, there has been no announcement whether any of the cast or creative team from the Los Angeles production will be heading to New York. The play, which premiered on February 15, 1950 at the Booth, revolves around Lola, a woman trapped in a 25-year marriage to the alcoholic Doc. The situation is altered when the couple takes in a lovely young boarder. The stage version won Tony Awards for Sidney Blackmer and Shirley Booth. Booth also picked up an Oscar for the 1952 flick. Merkerson has been on stage in The Piano Lesson, Birdie Blue, Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill and The Old Settler. On television, she won numerous awards for the HBO film Lackawanna Blues. But she's probably best know for playing Lt. Anita Van Buren on the long-running original Law and Order.
