DRAMA LEAGUE AWARDS ANNOUNCED
at the Marriott Marquis Hotel

DISTINGUISHED DISTINCTION
By Roger B. Harris
Published May 14 2007

  Liev Schreiber/ Talk Radio

Let gaiety be unrestrained--at least for the gleeful winners of the 73rd Annual Drama League Awards.

Liev Schreiber was awarded the Distinguished Performance Award for his work in Talk Radio. He beat out a long list--a really long list-- of notable performers, including Eve Best in A Moon for the Misbegotten, Kristin Chenoweth in The Apple Tree, Audra McDonald in 110 in the Shade, Hugh Dancy in Journey's End, Donna Murphy in LoveMusik and Bill Nighy in The Vertical Hour.

The Coast of Utopia won Distinguished Production of a Play, beating out among others, Blackbird, Frost/Nixon and Coram Boy; Spring Awakening won Distinguished Production of a Musical, beating out Mary Poppins and Curtains, among the other contenders.

Journey's End won Distinguished Revival of a Play, eclipsing Inherit the Wind and Talk Radio among others; Company won Distinguished Revival of a Musical, beating out among others A Chorus Line and Les Miserables.

The Julia Hansen Award for Excellence in Directing went to Michael Mayer, currently on Broadway with Spring Awakening. John Kander and his songwriting partner, the late Fred Ebb, were recipients of the League's Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theatre Award. Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS received the Unique Contribution to the Theatre Award.
