The revival of David Mamet's American Buffalo, which opened on Monday the 17th of November at the Belasco has posted a provisional closing notice. Thus, if sales don't pick up, the show will breathe its last on November 23. Fill in the appropriate Mamet profanity. The show, which stars John Leguizamo, Haley Joel Osment and Cedric the Entertainer and is directed by Robert Falls, was pretty much torched by the critics. Writing for theaternewsonline.com, reviewer Bill Stevenson pointed out that "the production while seldom boring, had hardly any dramatic fireworks...making it a rather flat staging that never catches fire." The original production opened on Broadway at the Barrymore Theatre on February 16 and closed on June 11, 1977, after 122 performances and 13 previews. It starred Robert Duvall, Kenneth McMillan and John Savage. The 1983 revival at the Booth starred Al Pacino. Off-Broadway, it was revived in 2000 at the Atlantic Theater Company. William H. Macy played Teach.
