By ROGER B. HARRIS
Published August 25 2008

  Lauren Kennedy

According to a report in The New York Times, the musical version of Vanities will begin previews on Broadway on February 2, at a theater to be announced. The show will be directed by Judith Ivey. It will star Lauren Kennedy, Sarah Stiles and Anneliese van der Pol.

The musical, based on the hit 1976 comedy by Jack Heifner, will be by Heifner and David Kirshenbaum. The Off-Broadway comedy bowed at the Westside Theater on March 22  of that year and featured Jane Galloway, Susan Merson and the Off-Broadway  debut of Kathy Bates. It piled up 1,785 performances. It tells the tale of three Texas teens and follows their adventures through school to housewives and beyond.

Prior to playing Broadway, the show will be at the Pasadena Playhouse through September 28.
