A FULL RESUME
By R. B. Harris

  David Mamet/Ph: Aubrey Reuben

The Roman slave who was a producer , a con man and a college professor will next get a shot at the Oval Office. Nathan Lane, that is, will play President Charles Smith in David Mamet's new five-character play November. The play is set to start previews on December 21, at a theater to be announced. The official opening is January 17. The production will be directed by Joe Mantello.

Mamet was last represented on Broadway, with a revival of Glengarry Glen Ross, also directed by Mantello. (Is it me, or does it seem like Mr. Mantello has directed everything of importance recently.) His many works include American Buffalo, Speed-the-Plow, Oleanna, The Old Neighborhood, and Boston Marriage. He has a new musical, A Waitress in Yellowstone, set to open at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in L.A. in May 2008.

As for Lane, his last Broadway gig was Butley. He's won the Tony Award for The Producers and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. He's also been in Guys and Dolls, The Odd Couple, Love! Valour! Compassion!, Do Re Mi, The Frogs and Present Laughter, among others.
