TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
at Hartford Stage

A FINE AND HONORABLE MAN
By ROGER B. HARRIS
Published January 11 2009

  Michael Modine

Film actor Matthew Modine will star in To Kill a Mockingbird. The stage adaptation of the classic Harper Lee novel, co-produced by Hartford Stage, will play at Hartford Stage February 19-April 4 -it heads to Westport County Playhouse for an April 21-May 9 run. The director will be Michael Wilson.

Modine will play lawyer "Atticus Finch," who's asked to defend a black man falsely accused of raping a white woman. Set in the 1930s Deep South, a place hit hard by the depression, that can be a daunting, not to say risky undertaking.

Along with Modine, the cast will include Hallie Foote, Devon Abner, James DeMarse, Jennifer Harmon, Nafe Katter, Doug Lyons, and Olivia Scott.

Modine appeared on stage in Resurrection Blues and Finishing the Picture. His films include Full Metal Jacket, Vision Quest, Gross Anatomy and Married to the Mob, among others.
