  Jodie Prenger

Jodie Prenger has won the role of Nancy in the BBC's latest casting show, I'd Do Anything in which contestants have been competing to star in Cameron Mackintosh's West End revival of Oliver!

Prenger, 28, will join Rowan Atkinson's Fagin in the production which opens at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane on January 14, 2009 following previews beginning December. 12.

The BBC has been accused by some observers &ndash and West End producers &ndash for selecting some West End shows for what amounts to free publicity.

It all started in 2006 with the The Sound of Music, for which Connie Fisher won the role of Maria in the BBC reality series How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria.

That series was followed by reality shows for West End productions of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Oliver! and Grease which was paired with the ITV series Grease is the Word.

When I'd Do Anything began airing in March, Kevin Spacey was scathing about the BBC's latest talent show, calling it a 13-week promotion for a musical. Where's our 13-week program, asked the Old Vic's artistic director.

Meanwhile, an emotional Prenger, who previously won another television show, The Biggest Loser, for which she lost 8 stone in weight, said Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart, I'm just so chuffed.
