THEATRE ROYAL HAYMARKET SEASON
at Theatre Royal, Haymarket

MAKING HAY
By Roger B. Harris
Published July 9 2007

  Patricia Hodge

The three-show initial season of the Theatre Royal Haymarket Company under the direction of Jonathan Kent has been announced.

For starters, there will be William Wycherley's The Country Wife, a restoration comedy masterpiece. It will star David Haig, Patricia Hodge, Liz Crowther, Fiona Glascott and Toby Stephens. And it will run from September 27, thru January 12.

Next up will be The Sea by Edward Bond. That will star Dame Eileen Atkins and will be on from January 17 thru April 19.

And finally, there will be the world premiere of Marguerite, a new musical with music by Michel Legrand, a book by Alain Boublil, Claude- Michel Schonberg and Kent and lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer (from Boublil's original French ones). The title role will be played by Ruthie Henshall. She's the mistress of a high ranking German officer in World War II, who falls in love with a musician, considerably younger than she.

The three shows in question will all have designs by Paul Brown, lighting by Mark Henderson, and sound by Paul Groothius.
