KING LEAR AND THE SEAGULL
at the Stratford-upon-Avon's Courtyard Theatre

MAJESTIC RETURN

   Ian McKellen as King Lear

Sir Ian McKellen has returned to the Royal Shakespeare Company after a 17 year absence to star in Trevor Nunn's production of King Lear, at Stratford-upon- Avon's Courtyard Theatre. Previews begin on March 24, with opening night set for April 3.

While at Stratford, McKellen will also be in Anton Chekhov's The Seagull, alternating with William Gaunt, in the role of Sorin. That play begins on April 17. Both plays are in repertory until June 23.

After an international tour, which includes stops in Australia, Singapore and New Zealand, the production will arrive at The Brooklyn Academy of Music's marvelous Harvey Theatre, on September 6. It then travels to the Guthrie in Minneapolis , beginning Oct 5 and, thence, to the Royce Hall in Los Angeles, on October 19.

Cast members in the repertory company include for Lear only, Sylvester McCoy(The Fool), Frances Barber( Goneril in Lear, Arkadina in The Seagull) and Romoia Garai (Cordelia in Lear, Nina in The Seagull).
