  Elena Rogers as Evita

The revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's Evita, will close on May 26, 2007. The show, which received glowing notices, will have played not quite a year. It opened on June 21, 2006. Previews had begun on the 2nd. of June.

Actress/singer Elena Rogers stars as Evita with Philip Quast as Peron and Matt Rawle as the narrator Che. Lorna Want  plays the mistress and Gary Milner is Magaldi. The creative team includes Christopher Oram (designs), Rob Ashford( choreography), Paule  Constable( lightiing) and  Mick Potter(sound). Donmar Warehouse artistic director Michael Grandage is the director.

Evita had been nominated for three Laurence Olivier Awards,--Outstanding Musical Production, Best Actress in a Musical, Best Actor in a Musical. It prevailed in none of them; all three awards went to Sunday in the Park with George.

The original production of Evita opened at the Prince Edward Theatre in 1978. Elaine Paige, played the title character to great acclaim. On September 25, 1979, the show opened at the Broadway Theatre in New York. It starred Patti LuPone as Evita, Bob Gunton as Peron and Mandy Patinkin as Che. The show won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Actress( LuPone), Best Featured Actor(Patinkin) and Best Director(Harold Prince.)
