Hairspray, a huge hit on Broadway, where it's about to celebrate its fifth anniversary at the Neil Simon, will be heading to the West End. The show will open at London's Shaftesbury Theatre ( home of Hair in the 60s) on Oct. 30, with previews commencing Oct 11. Directing the production will be Tony Award winner Jack O' Brien.

The musical, which carried off eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, has a book by Mark O' Donnell and Thomas Meehan, music by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaman. It's based on the New Line Cinema movie, Hairspray, written and directed by John Waters.

A film version of the musical will open on July 20. It stars Michelle Pfeiffer , John Travolta, Christopher Walken, Queen Laitfah, and Nikki Blonsky.
