THE LAST 5 YEARS
at the Theatre Royal Haymarket

BACK IN TOWN

  Jason Robert Brown

A gala performance of Jason Robert Brown's autobiographical musical The Last 5 Years is to be staged on October 12 at the Theatre Royal Haymarket to mark the fifth anniversary of Notes From New York , the annual theatrical event created to showcase the work of contemporary musical theatre composers in the West End.

Jason Robert Brown's music was one of the first to be staged by Note's which started life in 2003 and now also presents the work of British composers.

The gala production will star Julie Atherton (Avenue Q and Mamma Mia) and Paul Spicer (Witches of Eastwick) who is currently playing the role of Tobias in a new Swedish staging of Sondheim's Sweeney Todd at the Gothenburg Opera.

The Last 5 Years premiered at Chicago's Northlight Theatre in 2001 and made its U.K. debut at the Menier Chocolate Factory in 2006. Lara Pulver played failed actress Cathy opposite Damian Humbley's successful writer Jamie.

Brown's unusually structured musical follows the courtship, marriage and break-up of a couple's relationship, told from start to finish by the man and from finish to start by the woman.

Pulver later received an Olivier nomination for her performance in the Donmar production of Jason Robert Brown's musical Parade.
