DEPERATELY SEEKING SUSAN
at the Novello

A SIMPLE TWIST OF FATE
By Roger B. Harris
Published July 13 2007

Kelly Price, Debbie Harry and Emma Williams

First, there was the 1985 movie, Desperately Seeking Susan, which starred Rosanna Arquette( Roberta), and brought ever-lasting fame to Madonna(Susan); Now, there is the musical stage version, which is set to hit the West End on October 12, at the Novello Theatre. The official opening is set for November 15. The stage version will star Emma Williams and Kelly Price.

Williams will be playing Susan, the street-smart New York City toughie; Price will be Roberta, the bored suburban New Jersey housefrau. Williams played Johanna in the staged version of Sweeney Todd at the Royal Festival Hall, recently. She was also in the original production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Price took over the role of Sister Sarah in the recent revival of Guys and Dolls.

The musical was conceived and written by Peter Michael Marino. It will be directed by Angus Jackson and choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler. The design will be by Tim Hatley. The show will feature a number of Blondie hits, including "Heart of Glass," "Atomic," "Dreaming," The Tide is High," and "One Way or Another." A new Deborah Henry song, "Moment of Truth,"will be in the stage production.
